Lin Yuyuan

Dean of the School of Art & Design, Guangzhou College of Commerce

Professor Lin Yuyuan is the Dean of the School of Art & Design at Guangzhou College of Commerce, a professor, and a doctoral supervisor. He formerly served as the Dean of the School of Fine Arts at South China Normal University.

He was the editor-in-chief of The Study of Composition, a national key-level planning textbook during China's "10th Five-Year Plan" period. He also served as the editor-in-chief for textbooks commissioned by the Department of Teacher Education of the Ministry of Education, including Outdoor Sketching and Artistic Investigation, both published by the Higher Education Press. Furthermore, he was the general editor-in-chief for major publishing projects by Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House, namely the Series of Textbooks for Fine Arts Majors in Higher Education and the Series of Textbooks for Design Majors in Higher Education.

Invited by the Literary Contention magazine, he authored the "Viewpoint" section article "The Way of Images" in its May 2010 issue and contributed to the magazine's special column, "Contemporary Art Masters and Thirty Years of Chinese Fine Arts." His accolades include the "Fifth Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award," the "Guangdong Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award," the "Eighth Guangdong Provincial Famous Teacher Award for Higher Education," and the title of "Nanyue Outstanding Teacher."

His works have been featured in various major art exhibitions, and he has held numerous solo exhibitions. In 2015, the Guangdong Artists Association sponsored two of his exhibitions: Veritable Records: Lin Yuyuan's Works Exhibition at the Guyuan Art Museum and Nameless•Forever: Lin Yuyuan's Works Exhibition at the Guangdong Museum of Art. In 2016, he held The Common People Under the Brush: Lin Yuyuan's Works Exhibition at the Fujian Art Museum.

Currently, he serves as the general editor-in-chief of The Great Craftsman: Series of Textbooks for Fine Arts and Design Majors in Higher Education, which is being published in succession. He has proposed influential ideas such as, "Man is the measure of design, and beauty is a productive force," and "Science is the power that drives humanity forward, but beauty is the goal of humanity's progress."
