Shenzhen Research Institute (SZRI)

In May 2007, with the support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government, The Chinese University of Hong Kong established the Shenzhen Research Institute (SZRI).

Wholly owned by CUHK, SZRI serves as an extension of the University's research initiatives in Shenzhen, providing a pivotal base for its staff members to conduct research, development, training, and technology transfer in the Mainland. The infrastructure, a 9-storey building with a gross floor area of 25,000 square meters, was completed in 2011. It is well equipped with lecture theatres, training classrooms, research laboratories, and start-up incubation areas for supporting scientific research, talent cultivation, industry-academic-research collaboration, and technology transfer activities.

Keynote Speakers

Mr. Raymond D. Neoh

Raymond Dennis Neoh is widely recognized as the "Father of the Chinese CG Industry." He has been instrumental in pioneering the computer graphics sector in China. Neoh founded the Institute of Digital Media Technology (IDMT), Global Digital Creation (GDC), and GDC Technology, which significantly contributed to the development of digital cinema in China. He also established the Institute of Digital Game Technology (IDGT) for game development and training in Singapore, and CG Global Entertainment (CGGE) for the International AI and Creativity Conference. Additionally, he founded the Krystal Institute and Krystal Technology, focusing on bridging the global digital divide and advancing digital transformation.

Dr. Anthony F. Neoh

Dr. Neoh’s diverse roles, including his leadership at Global Digital Creation, showcase his significant influence in China’s creative industry. His insights into the legal, business, and academic aspects of creativity and animation make him a critical voice at the conference.

Professor Helen Meng

Helen Meng is Patrick Huen Wing Ming Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her research interests include speech and language technologies to support multilingual and multimodal human-computer interactions, eLearning and assistive technologies, as well as big data decision analytics using AI. She leads the interdisciplinary research team that received the first Theme-based Research Scheme Project in Artificial Intelligence in 2019 from the HKSAR Government’s Research Grants Council.

Mr. Francesco Siddi

With a background in industrial design, Francesco joined Blender in 2012 as a 3D artist and has been contributing to the project ever since in various roles, organizing events, designing and developing software and producing open movie projects. He is currently General Manager at Blender Studio and COO.

Dr. Scott Ross

Scott Ross is the Co-Founder of Digital Domain with Hollywood luminaries James Cameron and Stan Winston, one of the largest digital production studios in the motion picture and advertising industries. Under Ross' direction, Digital Domain garnered multiple Academy Award nominations, receiving its first Oscar for the groundbreaking visual effects in Titanic. For well over a decade Ross oversaw the company that created imagery for movies such as Titanic, The Fifth Element, Apollo 13, Fight Club, True Lies, Interview with the Vampire, O Brother Where Art Thou, X-Men, The Lord of the Rings, The Day After Tomorrow, and I, Robot.

Mr. Robert Minkoff

Robert Minkoff an American director, animator, and producer. He is best known for co-directing The Lion King, and live-action films including Stuart Little (1999), Stuart Little 2 (2002), The Haunted Mansion (2003), and The Forbidden Kingdom (2008). In recent decades, he returned to feature animation with Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) and Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022).
